Science OlympiadPowell!!! Got Thrird Place!!! Lets Go Panthers!!!SCIENCE OLYMPIAD EVENT ON APRIL 18 AT RALEIGH CHARTER HIGH SCHOOL MUST ATTEND BY 7:50 - 8:15Weekly Team Meeting Notes: * Our team is registered for the 2009 Science Olympiad for elementary schools. * I have been in contact with the winning coach from Raleigh Charter High School, Mr. Hames. His teams make hand written study guides for each event. They used these guides a study tools between team meetings. The meeting was spent adding to the study guides and locating additional resources. * Know the rules of your event. Read carefully the directions for each event in which you are involved. * Involve your classroom teacher and elective teachers in Science Olympiad! Tell them about your involvement andask them for suggestions. Teachers are always excited to learn that their students are reaching for level 4 opportunities. * Mystery Engineering or Pasta Tower teams should consider entering the Junk Art Contest. It's great practice. * Check with your team member for updates. * Teams should be meeting at least once a week. The Friday morning meetings should be the second meeting date of the week. * You can get more information on Science Olympiad at www.sciencenc.org Science Olympiad Meetings are held every Friday from 8:00 to 9:00am.
Team Meeting Notes February 20, 2009
*Competition date is April 18th at Raleigh Charter High School. Check the event schedule at
*Weekly Team Meeting Date set for Friday mornings @8:00am *Discusions of another team meeting day during the week. Ms. Kidd is available each day from 8:45-9:10 and from 3:45-4:40 each day for team members wishing to work together for short periods before and after school. Teams are encouraged to plan an additonal work session with teammates. *Made Science Olympiad notebooks. Anuj suggested this as study strategy. Teams should keep their study plans, information collected, and meeting dates and times in the notebook. Study guides can be stored in the notebook, also. *Anoter copy of the events were given out to the team. Team members were given a chance to look at the resources listed at the bottom of each event. These are great study tools. *Print off material from websites for use later. *Keep up with all class work. Teachers will be more willing to allow teams to practice during class or to collect materials if they feel students are taking responsiblilty for assignments. *Use grade 4 and grade 5 science and social studies textbooks are resources. *Anuj suggested making study guides for each event. These guides have proved very useful for older students who have been very successful at competitons. These guides would be used by future teams. *If you are not able to meet with your buddy, make notes on your topic and exchange them at school *If you know anybody who works in fields that you are doing for SCIENCE OLYMPIAD, ask them for help. *Please try to attend the meetings ********Study! Study! Study! Buddy! Buddy! Buddy! Study with your buddy! ********THE LIST OF RULES IS ATTACHED BELOW! DO NOT SAY YOU DIDN'T HAVE THE RULES AS AN EXCUSE FOR NOT STUDYING! NEXT MEETING:*The next meeting date is Friday, 3/8 @ 8:00! Contact your team members as often as you can. * We will hopefully cover ideas of a team shirt. We already have one idea and hope to get more. If you want to give an idea, bring it in on Friday. *Bring your study guides. We will be practicing some.
Some things we might win:
Trophies Medals...
HINTS THAT MUST BE FOLLOWED
Have good sportsmanship. People have been disqualified for not doing this. Make a good team effort. Work together. Be prepared. Eat a good breakfast.
Stay relaxed. A new study shows that the color blue relaxes you and makes you more aware of mistakes. Red keeps you focused. Have at least 8-10 hours of sleep. Don't take full lead. In science olympiad, imagine everyone is at the same level. Follow the other hints.
